Me playing Still Alive (Mirror’s Edge). I’m not entirely happy with this but I didn’t have the time to do a second recording. Will try to update with a better version soonish!

Completed Cosplay: Faith Connors (Mirror’s Edge)

This was my first cosplay! I don’t have any of the making-of photos because I didn’t think of starting a blog until well after Kumoricon had come and gone, but the good news is that it was a really simple outfit and the making-ofs would have been boring anyway.

My hair here is my real hair; I had it cut the day before the convention. Makeup is just tinted moisturizer, clear lip balm, and carefully applied black eyeliner pencil. For the tank top, I took a plain black ribbed tank from Target and used fabric paint and tape to get the stripes down the side. The arm band is part of a tube sock which I chopped off and hemmed, and the glove was originally elbow-length and had fingers, but scissors and needle and thread fixed that. The bag is an official Mirror’s Edge runner bag which was a preorder bonus for the game (I got it on Ebay) and it’s really, really nice. I’ve been using it for a school bag pretty much every day, it’s surprisingly well made and has a ton of room.

My pants I actually got from Fred Meyer over 3 years ago, and they just happened to be the perfect pants for this character. Rawhide shoelaces tied them at the ankle. I have to admit I got lazy with the shoes. I found a pair of red shoes with tan stripes on Ebay, painted over the stripes with white, used a sharpie to get the black tops, replaced the shoelaces (they used to be tan), and called them good enough. Too bad those split-toe parkour shoes aren’t readily available…

And then the most exciting part, the arm tattoo! I grabbed this template and resized it in Photoshop to fit my arm (made it 5 inches across and scaled the length proportionately). I printed it out on two sheets of card stock and cut it out with a craft knife. Then I ran it through a sticker maker, stuck it to my arm, and had my friend color it in with black Crayola washable marker. It held up through the entire day, even in the hot weather!
